Entre el 10 y el 12 de febrero arrancaron los encuentros del Apertura 2022 de Primera División del Campeonato Nacional de Voleibol con cuatro juegos en masculino y dos en femenino.
El campeón nacional masculino estrenó su corona superando como visitante a Belén en un reñido encuentro celebrado en el Polideportivo belemita. El marcador fue de 1-3 favorable para los atenienses.
Los dos primeros sets fueron para los campeones con cifras de 18-25 19-25. Belén se repuso en el tercer periodo y ganó 25-19, pero Atenas sentenció el juego en el cuarto set al ganar 22-25, y sumar así su primera victoria del torneo.
En Plaza Víquez San José dio cuenta de Aserrí con un claro 3-0, gracias a sus parciales de 25-17, 25-22, y 25-19.
Otro equipo que ganó en solo tres sets fue UNED que superó como local a Cartago con parciales de 25-17, 25-17 y 25-22, este partido se celebró en el Gimnasio de Barrio Dent.
Las emociones continuaron en el Gimnasio Siglo XXI de San Carlos, donde los locales doblegaron 3-1 al aguerrido equipo de Abangares. Los visitantes ganaron el primer set 22-25 pero los sancarleños hicieron valer su gimnasio y la presencia de su afición en las graderías en los siguientes sets ganando con cifras de 25-22, 25-17 y 25-19.
La segunda fecha arrancará el sábado 19 de febrero a las 7:00pm en el Polideportivo de Aserrí con el duelo entre el equipo local ante Belén. Esa misma noche Atenas se medirá a UNED en Liceo de Atenas.
El domingo a las 11:30 am en el Polideportivo de Cartago se presentará el duelo entre el equipo brumoso ante San Carlos. A la 1:00 de la tarde caerá el telón de la segunda fecha en Abangares cuando los locales se medirán a su similar de San José.
Femenino
En el torneo femenino los dos primeros equipos en triunfar fueron Goicoechea y UNED. Las guadalupanas fueron contundentes y en condición de visitante se impusieron 0-3 ante UCR con parciales de 17-25, 20-25, y 20-25. El partido se efectuó en la sede de las universitarias en Sabanilla de Montes de Oca.
UNED obtuvo su victoria de manera más estrecha jugando como local en Barrio Dent ante Cartago. Las univesitarias ganaron a las brumosas 3-2 en intenso partido. 
El primer set fue para Cartago con cifras de 15-25, pero UNED ganó el segundo 25-18. Cartago se volvió a ir arriba ganando el tercero 23-25, sin embargo UNED terminó por dejarse el duelo, ganando el cuarto set 25-14 y el quinto y definitivo 15-10.
El juego entre los sextetos de San José y Universidad Nacional quedó reprogramado mientras que el campeón nacional Santa Barbara aún no debuta en el torneo.
Las campeonas saltarán a escena el jueves a las 7:30 pm cuando se midan en el Gimnasio Municipal de su cantón a Goicoechea.
El torneo continuará el domingo con los partidos Cartago ante UCR en el Polideportivo de Cartago, juego pactado para las 9:30 de la mañana.
Media hora después iniciará el duelo univesitario en casa de la Universidad Nacional, donde las locales se enfrentarán a la UNED.
