Las Selecciones Juvenil (U17) y Junior (U19) de Costa Rica, en la rama femenina, disputaron a lo largo de la semana en Honduras el IHF Trophy ante el resto de naciones de Centroamérica. Este era el primer escalón rumbo al Sur Centro, en el que se toparán con selecciones de Sudamérica.
Solamente había dos cupos para el Sur Centro en cada categoría, Costa Rica lo consiguió en Juvenil tras lograr la medalla de plata mientras que la Junior quedó en el camino, pero se llevó la medalla de bronce en el torneo.
El equipo nacional llegó invicto a la última jornada, en el que se topó a Guatemala y perdió el partido en los últimos cuatro segundos. Incluso el empate les daba el oro a las ticas. Sin embargo, ya el boleto al Sur Centro se había consumado en la fecha anterior tras derrotar en un partido apretado a Nicaragua por 26-24.
Esta Selección Juvenil está compuesta por jugadoras de diferentes partes del país que vieron participación en el último campeonato de Liga Menor 2024-2025 y para todas era prácticamente la primera vez que se enfrentaban a un reto internacional. Ahora les tocará prepararse para en noviembre enfrentar el Sur Centro contra selecciones de un mayor nivel.
En Junior Costa Rica también arrancó bien, pero tuvo dos derrotas dolorosas en el cierre, primero contra Guatemala y luego ante El Salvador, que la dejaron fuera del Sur Centro.
