Pococí buscará su medalla en una cerrada categoría

Sebastián Víquez es la carta con que el Comité Cantonal de Pococí podrá buscar su medalla en los Juegos Deportivos Nacionales. La participación del limonense será en la categoría Juvenil B masculina, en la cual se augura una cerrada disputa por las medallas.

El joven de 16 años tiene cinco de practicar la disciplina, inició su proceso a partir del ciclismo con algunas amistades y se formó con el entrenador Alejandro Nietzen, del Team Chaman-ATP.

Ha sido seleccionado youth y junior, mostrando una mejoría constante que lo llevará a su tercera participación en las justas nacionales.

Actualmente Víquez se entrena al lado de Alberto Chinchilla, quien también fungirá como técnico para el cantón de Pococí.

“Actualmente hay solo un representante a nivel cantonal de Pococí, pero sabemos que en la zona hay jóvenes con talento que pueden destacar, ojalá a futuro se pueda consolidar un equipo propio de triatlón. Hace poco arreglaron la piscina del Comité Cantonal y eso es buen indicio para empezar a masificar”, analizó Chinchilla.

El entrenador resaltó el trabajo de Víquez, sobre todo su crecimiento en los últimos años.
“Esperaríamos que pueda tener un muy buen papel en estos Juegos. En Selección Nacional ha ido creciendo, la idea es que siga mejorando y represente al país”.

Destacó que su fortaleza como triatleta radica en el ciclismo, donde podría sacar ventaja para buscar un puesto en el podio.

“Es una categoría que me encanta, porque hay varios jóvenes que tienen el chance de hacer la diferencia. Está Gerald Rojas (Alajuela), quien destaca con gran talento; José Artavia (San José) viene muy bien y madurando; ellos son los mejores nadadores. Además de Sebastián Víquez está Sebastián Araya (Alajuela)… Entonces hay 4-5 jóvenes que van a dar la pelea. Es una competencia donde se debe sacar provecho de los talentos que cada uno tenga para hacer la diferencia. Nosotros aspiramos a una medalla, pero tenemos muy buenos competidores, hay que hacer un gran esfuerzo para poder estar ahí”, añadió.

Los Juegos Nacionales 2024 se disputarán el sábado 6 y domingo 7 de julio, cuando se realicen las competencias individual y relevos, respectivamente.
