Gerald Drummond competirá en el Grand Slam Track

El buen desempeño de Gerald Drummond en el último año y su participación reciente en tres eventos en Asia, captaron la atención de los organizadores del Grand Slam Track, un circuito que fue creado este 2025 con el objetivo de revolucionar el atletismo y darle competencia a la Diamond League.

El vallista recibió la invitación para participar este 31 de mayo y 1 de junio en la tercera fecha que se realizará en el Estadio Franklin Field en Filadelfia, Estados Unidos.

Este circuito alternativo es una iniciativa del estadounidense Michael Johnson, ex atleta en los 200 y 400 metros y medallista olímpico; consta de cuatro fechas y únicamente se realizan carreras de pistas, sin eventos de saltos ni lanzamientos.

En este evento participan dos grupos de atletas: racers, top 10 del mundo que firmaron con la organización para las cuatro fechas; y challengers, invitados a alguna fecha que son elegidos en base a sus actuaciones recientes y estado de forma, como es el caso de Drummond.

Otra particularidad es que en cada distancia se disputarán dos carreras con los mismos protagonistas y la suma de puestos determinará el vencedor.

Gerald correrá los 400 metros planos y los 400 metros con vallas y tendrá como rivales al brasileño Alison dos Santos, el francés Clément Ducos, los estadounidenses Trevor Bassitt, CJ Allen, Caleb Dean y Chris Robinson, y el jamaiquino Assinie Wilson.

“La semana pasada recibí la noticia de que entraría como challenger, estoy muy contento de tener la oportunidad de estar ahí. En las últimas competencias he venido mejorando mi rendimiento y, aunque fue algo que surgió y no tenía planeado, vamos a intentar competir contra los mejores del mundo y dar lo mejor de mí”, indicó Gerald, quien competirá este sábado a las 2:48 p.m. hora nacional en los 400 con vallas y el domingo a la 1:41 p.m. en los 400 lisos.
