En el gimnasio del American International School se desarrollaron las finales del Torneo Juvenil 2021 que coronaron a Santa Bárbara en femenino y a Grecia en masculino como los nuevos monarcas del voleibol juvenil.
Las barbareñas al mando del experimentado Julio Alfaro, se impuso 3-1 a un aguerrido Grecia dirigido por Jeremy Guerrero.
El encuentro fue muy cerrado. El primer set fue para Grecia con parciales 25-23. Para el segundo set, Santa Bárbara emparejaría el marcador con un parcial que finalizó 16-25, el tercer set terminó con amplia ventaja para «Santa» 12-25 y las barbareñas se irían arriba 1-2. El cuarto sería el definitivo o Grecia alargaría hasta un quinto set. Con parcial de 18-25, Santa Bárbara se dejó la copa de campeonas juveniles.
«Veníamos con buen ritmo con las jugadoras juveniles de primera división, veníamos mentalizarás para lo que fue este torneo, para nosotras fue un año difícil, nosotras empezamos tarde a entrenar, hoy todo es satisfacción y fruto de lo que se ha venido trabajando», destacó Yulianna González, asistente técnica de Santa Bárbara.
Destacaron en el encuentro Sophia Cháez por Santa Bárbara y Valery Solano por Grecia.
«Muy contentas, este campeonato fue bastante difícil, hemos venido trabajando muy duro, la verdad muy contentas de ver todo lo que hemos logrado este año», destacó Daniela Barrantes, capitana de Santa Bárbara.
En la final masculina, Grecia venció 3-0 a Santa Bárbara, para convertirse en los mejores del Torneo Juvenil y alzar la copa de campeones.
Con parciales de 25-19/25-18/27-25 Grecia se dejó la copa de manera invicta. Sus jugadores mas destacados del encuentro fueron Harold Rodríguez por Grecia y Eytan Vargas por Santa Bárbara.
«Muy orgulloso por haber sacado el Torneo, este es mi ultimo año, sacar una marca perfecta con cero set en contra, el partido se nos complicó, bajamos la guardia pero pudimos sacar el resultado y es lo que importa», Harold Rodríguez.
