El entrenador Vladimir Quesada eligió a sus hombres y ya están definidos los 20 jugadores que representarán a Costa Rica en el próximo Campeonato Sub 20 Masculino de la Concacaf que se realizará en Honduras.
La base del grupo está en los futbolistas que hace solo unas semanas campeonizaron en el Torneo Uncaf de esta categoría en Belice. El equipo viene trabajando desde el año anterior y reforzó su preparación con fogueos internacionales.
Precisamente, esta semana se disputan los dos últimos ensayos, ante Trinidad y Tobago, antes de viajar a San Pedro Sula el jueves de la próxima semana. El primer duelo con los trinitenses fue el miércoles pasado y se saldó con empate a cero goles; el segundo será el sábado en el Estadio Nacional a puerta cerrada.
La nómina incluye a dos futbolistas que se encuentran en este momento en Catar con la Selección Mayor: Jewison Bennette y Brandon Aguilera, quienes se van a incorporar a la Sub 20 apenas regresen del repechaje.
El entrenador Vladimir Quesada explicó que fue complicado hacer el corte final de los 20 que viajarán, dado el abundante compromiso y talento que encontró en esta generación de futbolistas. “No es una frase hecha ni reiterativa, pero fue una elección difícil después del largo proceso. Nos queda el agradecimiento a los jugadores que pusieron sus mejores aptitudes y destrezas y sobre todo su actitud para competir por un puesto. A todos ellos y sus equipos, muchas gracias”, comentó el estratega.
Costa Rica está sembrada en el grupo H del Campeonato Sub 20 de la Concacaf. Jugará la primera fase ante Jamaica (18 de junio), Antigua y Barbuda (20 de junio) y Honduras (22 de junio).
Los tres primeros de cada uno de los cuatro grupos avanzarán a la siguiente ronda donde se unirán a otras cuatro selecciones del Caribe previamente clasificadas.
Al Mundial Sub 20 Indonesia 2023 irán los cuatro semifinalistas; además, los dos primeros puestos clasificarán a los Juegos Olímpicos París 2024.
