Doha, Catar. En su último encuentro con los medios de comunicación, previo al juego que definirá la última selección clasificada para el Mundial de la FIFA Catar 2022, el director técnico Luis Fernando Suárez y el capitán de la Tricolor Bryan Ruiz asistieron a la conferencia de prensa oficial en la que ambos coincidieron en que el rival no será fácil, pero se sienten preparados para cualquier posible escenario que se presente durante los 90 minutos o más.

Ansiedad, nervios, mariposas en el estómago, deseos de que el árbitro pite el arranque del encuentro, sea el nombre que se le quiera poner, de eso y más hay dentro de la Selección de Costa Rica.

Porque más allá de una concentración plena (porque durante varias semanas han tenido un gran trabajo mental) los jugadores al final son seres humanos, que tienen emociones pero que en esta ocasión las están convirtiendo en sus aliadas para este martes saltar al terreno de juego del Ahmed Bin Alí a darlo todo, a dejar en la cancha hasta la última gota de sudor por ese pase mundialista.

Aquí algunas de las frases más importantes que dieron Suárez y Ruiz durante la conferencia de prensa organizada por FIFA.

-Me parece que esta semana el valor más importante que hemos trabajado es la cooperación, que este partido no lo podrá sacar un jugador de manera individual, sino que lo debemos hacer todos, así como lo hicimos en la eliminatoria y llegamos al repechaje.
-Tenemos todo o nada para hacer historia y lograr por primera vez clasificar a tres mundiales consecutivos.
-Sin irrespetar a un proceso o selección que he estado, creo que este es el mejor grupo en el que he estado. En la parte anímica y física estamos muy bien, todos nos hemos podido entrenar al 100 por ciento entrenando en cada práctica como si fuera el día del partido y nadie se ha lesionado.
-Siento al grupo muy bien y aunque existe la posibilidad de perder, el tener ese balance en todos los aspectos nos ayudará a sacar positivamente el encuentro. Claro está que el rival que tendremos en frente no será nada fácil.
-Lo que me falta para terminar mi carrera es coronarla con un tercer mundial, sé que no depende de mí pero es por lo que estamos trabajando.
-Creo que será un partido donde ninguno de los dos equipos va a querer tomar riesgos. Nueva Zelanda es un equipo ordenado y no creo que nos dejen mucho espacio para poder formular acciones. Se verá mucha pasión durante los 90 minutos o más.

-Uno no tiene que estar repitiendo historias, tiene que estar viviendo nuevas historias y lo estoy haciendo hoy con Costa Rica.
-Para mí los partidos los ganan los buenos equipos, no los conformados por jugadores veteranos o jóvenes y es lo que hoy se da con Costa Rica. Los veteranos están para enseñar y los chicos para aprender. Mañana al jugador que ponga será parte de un buen equipo independientemente de la edad.
-Ocupamos que el grupo esté fuerte mentalmente y que en un determinado momento fluya una idea y que eso se note en la cancha.
-Nueva Zelanda es un equipo que juega sencillo y eso lo hace mucho más peligroso. Es un equipo que desde su salida con su arquero casi siempre hace juego interior, en los inicios hasta el último tercio por lo general siempre abre el campo. Una de sus fortalezas es el fútbol aéreo, no solo la pelota quieta.
-Nosotros buscaremos tener buena tenencia de la pelota, buscar los espacios que estén deshabitados para utilizarlos bien en velocidad.
-Para cada situación u ofensiva que nos muestre Nueva Zelanda hemos preparado algo para poder responderle.
