Con la participación de los equipos de YMCA y UNAM de México, la Selección Nacional de Panamá y el equipo de La Sabana y la Selección Nacional de Costa Rica; este fin de semana se llevó a cabo el II Open Internacional de Waterpolo 2022 en la piscina de la Ciudad Deportiva Heiner Ugalde en Hatillo.
Fueron tres días de competencias, en donde los amantes del polo acuático o polo acuático disfrutaron al máximo de un torneo internacional en nuestro país, con partidos muy intensos y con muchas anotaciones.
Con lo que respecta a los resultados, en juvenil el primer lugar se lo dejó UNAM Azul, seguido de Costa Rica y Panamá de segundo y tercero, respectivamente.
Por su parte en femenino las medallas de oro, plata y bronce fueron para YMCA, Costa Rica y Panamá.
Mientras que Costa Rica, UNAM Oro y Sabana llegaron al pódium, dejándose los primero puestos del torneo.
El combinado panameño de la mano del estratega Jorge Jiménez se hizo presente en el evento, destacando que están iniciando un proceso en el waterpolo.
“Después de la pandemia estamos estructurando el equipo nuevo. Primera vez en la historia del waterpolo de Panamá que competimos con las tres categorías (juvenil, femenino y masculino) y esto es gracias a la Federación Panameña de Natación. Sabíamos con quién nos íbamos a enfrentar, pero es un logro para nosotros y un beneficio haber venido a Costa Rica que es nuestra casa, estamos viniendo desde 1982. Tremendo evento.” mencionó Jiménez.
El equipo de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) salió del Open con un primer lugar en juvenil y un segundo lugar en masculino y con la dirección del entrenador César Santoyo destacó la competividad del evento y salen satisfechos de lo realizado.
“La competencia exige nivel, nunca habíamos jugado con el equipo de Panamá, con el equipo de Costa Rica no habíamos jugado como club, siempre nos habíamos enfrentado como Selecciones Nacionales. Nos vamos contentos, fue una buena experiencia y esperamos que nos inviten el año que entra. Nuestras expectativas siempre es apuntar a lo más alto, si veníamos a ganar la competencia. Desconocíamos el nivel de algunos equipos, nosotros venimos en representación a un club que es de la UNAM, pero nos vamos contentos con lo realizado.” comentó Santoyo.
El jugador de la Selección de Costa Rica Yendry Rey destacó que la final ante UNAM Oro fue complicado, pero al final lograron dejarse el título en suelo nacional.
“La final estuvo bien disputada, fue un partido muy físico, de mucha concentración. Ya como antes habíamos jugado ya nos conocíamos, entonces cada equipo aplicó su táctica, pero al final pudimos sacar el partido. Este torneo es un gran fogueo, hace tiempo no lo hacemos internacionalmente, es una gran preparación para todos los procesos que se están desarrollando, una gran forma de promocionar el deporte en Costa Rica” concluyó Rey.
Concluido este II Open Internacional de Waterpolo 2022, en las próximas semanas se reanudará el Campeonato Nacional de Polo Acuático 2022, en el cual se han disputado dos de cuatro fechas que se tiene planificado.
