La joven portera de 18 años Carolina Méndez se prepara con disciplina y grandes sacrificios para lograr uno de sus sueños, que es representar a nuestro país en el Mundial Femenino Sub 20.
Esta arquera de Desamparados de Alajuela ya tiene la experiencia de ser una de las porteras del Deportivo Saprissa en la Primera División. A pesar de su corta edad, ha logrado cumplir grandes objetivos que ella misma se propuso, como poder entrar en la lista final de convocadas a la Tricolor en la cita mundialista.
“Me he propuesto metas y objetivos, y gracias a Dios estoy aquí con la Selección Sub 20, a las puertas de un Mundial y esforzándome el triple por esa meta que es jugar la Copa Mundial Sub 20”, aseguró la cancerbera.
Uno de los pilares fundamentales para Carolina es su familia, ya que su papá, su mamá y su hermano mayor son un gran apoyo para su crecimiento futbolístico y profesional, debido a que actualmente también está estudiando medicina en la Universidad de Costa Rica.
“Los tres han sido fundamentales durante este proceso, siempre me han apoyado en todo lo que decido hacer y yo creo que eso ha sido una gran ayuda que tengo en mi vida, tal vez me ha facilitado la toma de decisiones”, comentó.
En la siguiente entrevista se detallan otros puntos importantes en la historia de esta joven seleccionada nacional.
¿Cómo nace esa pasión por ser guardameta?
Yo inicio en el fútbol desde que tengo memoria, al principio era delantera, pero en la escuela ingresé a un equipo de fútbol femenino y necesitaban alguien que atajara; ahí me mandé de valiente, y desde ese momento mi profesor me eligió como portera.
¿Qué sacrificios ha tenido que realizar?
Yo no lo tomo como sacrificios, sino como luchar por esos objetivos que uno quiere lograr. Muchas veces hay que sacrificar tiempo, ocio, que no me puedo acostar tarde porque al día siguiente me tengo que levantar temprano.
Es una dinámica un poco complicada, manejar los entrenamientos, partidos, mezclarlo con el estudio, pero creo que es un sacrificio que estoy dispuesta a tomar en esta disciplina.
¿Cuál es ese ejemplo a seguir?
Yo tomo mucho como punto de referencia a la portera actual del Olympique de Lyon, que se llama Christiane Endler, ella es chilena, no está tan lejos y he visto que ha sido portera del PSG. Ahora acaba de quedar campeona de la Champions League con el Lyon, y es la portera titular y capitana de la Selección chilena; considero que ella es una referente.
¿Qué mensaje le puede dar a las jóvenes que desean ser porteras?
Que se planteen metas y objetivos, que ningún sueño es demasiado grande. Con disciplina, trabajo fuerte y mucho esfuerzo se logra llegar donde usted se vea. Va a haber muchos sacrificios en el camino, va a haber caídas también, pero en el fútbol no todo es bonito, hay que caerse para aprender a levantarse.
