Los equipos de la Universidad de Costa Rica en masculino y SR en femenino son los nuevos equipos de Primera División del voleibol costarricense.
El gimnasio Rafael Rodríguez en San Ramón fue el escenario que recibió la final del Voleibol de la Liga de Ascenso 2022. Las emociones sobre la red iniciaron a las 3:30pm con el juego entre SR y Atenas por la final femenina.
Un encuentro dominado en los dos primeros set por SR se le puso cuesta arriba cuando Atenas aseguró el tercer set obligando a un cuarto set. Finalmente las sanrafaeleñas sacaron la victoria y aseguraron su pase a la Primera División.
Marcador final: SR 3-1 Atenas (25-19/25-21/16-25/15-25). 
«Muy contentos, muy satisfechos con el trabajo realizado durante el campeonato, y el pase a Primera División, un gran rival Atenas, como siempre un gran rival en cualquier categoría y rama, eso le pone un sabor extra para nosotros. Un proyecto distinto al que estamos acostumbrados a trabajar y se nos dieron las cosas y esperar al próximo año a ver que nos trae la Primera División», Christian Sandoval, entrenador de SR.
A segunda hora se disputó el encuentro masculino que enfrenta a los equipos de CCDR Aserrí y la Universidad de Costa Rica.
Este fue un duelo muy parejo, con un set para cada equipo (UCR 26-24/ 09-25/ 25-17/19-25 CCDR Aserrí) obligó al quinto set para el desempate. El desenlace fue de de infarto para los presentes que coreaban el nombre de sus equipos, finalmente la UCR se dejó el encuentro con marcador de 3-2 finalizando 17-15 el último set.
Marcador final: UCR 3-2 CCDR Aserrí (26-24/ 09-25/ 25-17/19-25/17-15). 
«Un partido demasiado táctico, mis felicitaciones para el equipo de Aserrí, un partido que estaba para cualquiera de los dos equipos, al final ganó el que cometió menos errores en los momentos cruciales del partido. Nos queda ahora comenzar una nueva etapa, el equipo estuvo en primera división, bajo y ahora teneos la dicha ed subir es el resultado del trabajo fuerte que han tenido los muchachos ese triunfo se lo merecen ellos», destacó Jose Enrique Pavón, entrenador de la UCR.
Los equipos que descendieron en este 2022 fueron en femenino CCDR Curridabat y en masculino Abangares.
Para el 2023 el sexteto de SR hará su debut también en Primera División, ya que este 2022 lo hicieron en el Ascenso, y completa los ocho equipos femeninos con San José, Santa Bárbara, Goicoechea, UNA, UNED, UCR, Joma Cartago.
Mientras que en masculino, la UCR vuelve a tener presencia después de varios años de no pertenecer a la máxima categoría y acompañará a San José, Atenas, San Carlos, Aserrí, Belén, UNED y Joma Cartago.
