Julio Cascante: Del éxito en la MLS a la eliminatoria mundialista con la Sele

El defensa central, Julio Cascante, llega a la Selección Mayor como todo un legionario consolidado en su club, Austin FC. Cascante vive un buen momento en la temporada actual de la MLS, pues ha sido titular en 12 de los últimos 15 partidos y ha anotado dos goles en ese periodo.

“Siempre tener esos minutos (de juego) en tu equipo te ayuda bastante, ya que cuando llegás a la selección lo hacés en un buen ritmo.”, mencionó el defensor.

Desde hace siete años se convirtió en legionario y a finales de 2020 firmó con su club actual. El limonense de nacimiento inicia esta eliminatoria con seis apariciones internacionales con la Tricolor y anotó su primer gol con la Selección en el 2023 contra los Emiratos Árabes Unidos.

La evolución del defensor desde que salió del Saprissa hacia Estados Unidos ha sido notable en varios aspectos del juego, principalmente la madurez, su consolidación en defensa y el aumento de su producción ofensiva.

“Diferentes entrenadores que he tenido me han enseñado a no solo ser central defensivo, sino también a jugar con el balón y ser un poquito más ofensivo.”, destacó Cascante.

El seleccionado nacional se prepara para el primer capítulo de esta eliminatoria mundialista ante San Cristóbal y Nieves el jueves 6 de junio a las 8:30 pm en el Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica.

“Estamos muy contentos y ansiosos de que comience la eliminatoria y para muchos de nosotros es la primera eliminatoria. Sabemos que tenemos un rival al frente al que tenemos que ganarle porque estamos en casa”, agregó el defensor tico.

Julio Cascante como legionario se siente feliz, motivado, inspirado y con el deseo de que llegue el pitazo inicial para salir a la cancha a jugar, por el honor de los ticos.
